Rep. Matt Gaetz says Dem leaders threatened members into supporting impeachment

According to NBC News, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said her party’s leadership was not going to try to whip up support for impeachment among its caucus members. But according to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), that could not be further from the truth.

The Daily Caller reports that Gaetz exposed Pelosi on Monday by revealing that Democrat leadership actually rigged the vote by outright threatening House Democrats with consequences if they showed signs they wouldn’t “roll along with the radical left.”

Vote yes, or else

When the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump were written, the buzz around D.C. was that there were close to a dozen Democrats having second thoughts about voting “yes” to impeachment.

There were two House Democrats openly voicing their plans to vote “no,” and both followed through on that promise.

In addition to those two, there were reports of about 10 other Democrats approaching Pelosi to issue a censure rather than impeachment.

Then, suddenly, when it came time to vote, everyone voted in favor of impeachment, even though it was expected that somewhere between four and six of them would not vote in support of the articles.

If what Gaetz is saying is true, the reason that happened was that House leadership was outright threating House Dems with the loss of support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) if they failed to toe the line.

The threat

“It’s not just that Nancy Pelosi raises money for the caucus, but they use the money as a political weapon against anyone who potentially wouldn’t vote against impeachment,” Rep. Gaetz told Hannity guest host Gregg Jarrett on Monday.

He went on: “Andy [Biggs] and I observed active threats on the House floor at the Democrats to roll along with the radical left of the Democratic Party to support impeachment or they would not be supported by the D-Triple-C.”

Rep. Biggs (R-AZ) corroborated Gaetz’s story, claiming that he has been talking to Dems in the House, and quite a few of them just want the saga to end.

“They wish it had never happened,” he said, “but you know what, Nancy Pelosi has raised money for them but the reality is many wish this thing would go away.”

As Biggs stated, many Democrats know that impeachment has gone too far. “It’s done nothing but help President Trump solidify his position with people of reason throughout the country,” he concluded.
