Tragedy befell the music industry this week when a rising star in the country music scene was killed in a terrible car accident.
Texas-based country singer Kylie Rae Harris was found dead at the scene of a three-car accident in New Mexico on Wednesday, according to Fox News.
A fatal accident
The Taos County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico confirmed that Harris had been one of three drivers involved in a fatal wreck on State Road 522 near Taos.
The 30-year-old singer, as well as a 16-year-old girl in another vehicle, perished at the scene. The third driver reportedly escaped injury in the collision.
Though details remain sparse at this time, the sheriff’s office indicated that they believe alcohol played a role in the accident, though it hasn’t been made clear which of the three drivers was suspected of being under the influence.
“We are heartbroken to confirm that Kylie Rae Harris passed away in a car accident last night,” one of the singer’s representatives told Fox News.
The representative went on: “Everyone that knew Kylie knew how much she loved her family and, beyond that, how much she loved music. The best tribute to her unmatched enthusiasm for both is to spread as much love as you can today, and listen to music that fully inspires you.”
An emotional trip
Harris had traveled to Taos to take part in the Big Barn Music Festival that was scheduled for Thursday.
In an Instagram post before her death, the singer noted that she had traveled to Taos countless times over the past 20 years with her father and sister to visit extended family who lived in the area.
Sadly, except for one uncle, all of her family — including her father — had since passed away, making the trip to Taos a rather emotional one for Harris.
However, even as she mourned the loss of her loved ones, the familiar sight of cows along the oft-traveled route had, in its own way, helped her proceed along through the grieving process.
It will now fall to others to grieve the loss of Harris, as she leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter and an untold number of incredibly saddened fans and personal friends.
