White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s Trump-hating husband George Conway will do just about anything to grab a headline and make his wife’s life miserable these days.
Even though Attorney General William Barr stated the report found no collusion between President Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia, George Conway suggested that Mueller might have found evidence of collusion — just not enough evidence.
“If Mueller had used the words “no evidence of a conspiracy or coordination” (i.e., no collusion), you can be damned sure Barr would have quoted those words. But Mueller didn’t, and Barr didn’t,” George Conway tweeted on Sunday, in response to another Twitter user who asked Reuters to “please distinguish between no ‘evidence’ and ‘not enough evidence to make a finding.’”
George Conway appears to believe the wording of Attorney General William Barr’s summary of the Mueller report was misleading.
Barr’s summary of the Mueller report
Here is the problem with Conway’s statement…
The only person outside of Mueller’s team who knows for sure what the special counsel’s report says at this point is Barr, who wrote in his summary that Mueller “did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.”
Barr’s summary also included a direct quote from the Mueller report, stating that Mueller “did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities.”
That is pretty cut and dried.
Conway’s speculation here is nothing more than an effort to grab a headline and make himself a little more famous.
All of this speculation will be ended on Thursday when the Mueller report is finally revealed. While Democrats have demanded an unredacted version of the report, Barr has yet to bow to their demands.
As far as we know, the only version of the report that will be released will be a redacted one. However, Barr is bending over backward to accommodate requests. He has gone on the record to say where there are redactions, his team will make summary notes so the reader will get a gist of the redacted information.
We already know Mueller’s overall findings, but Democrats are hoping to find even a small thread to attack Trump to justify the dozen or so investigations they have and plan to launch against him now that they control the House.
