Kamala Harris takes flak after failing to push back against college student’s accusatory comments toward Israel

Vice President Kamala Harris is in serious trouble — and it’s gotten so bad that even CNN is devoting substantial airtime to it.

The vice president has been in full damage-control mode, Politico reports, after she failed to push back on anti-Semitic comments made by a student at George Mason University on Wednesday.

It’s a nightmare scenario for a Biden administration already struggling to grapple with the fallout of a crisis at the U.S.–Mexico border and a botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

A total disaster

For Harris, the polls just don’t lie. She’s an unpopular VP, and her latest actions aren’t helping matters.

When a student told Vice President Harris during a classroom visit at George Mason, near Washington, on Wednesday that Israel was committing “ethnic genocide,” Harris seemed to condone the student’s inflammatory and incorrect claims, opting not to argue with them.

“This is about the fact that your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth should not be suppressed and it must be heard, right?” Harris said in response to the student’s comments, according to the Times of Israel.

“And one of the things that we’re fighting for in a democracy, right, a democracy is its strongest when everybody participates,” she added.

She “doesn’t have time”

Republican lawmakers immediately condemned the VP over the remarks, with Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) also drawing attention to Harris’ lack of action on the border.

“Kamala Harris doesn’t have time to go the border, but she apparently has plenty of time to encourage anti-Israel, anti-Semitic falsehoods,” Hawley said in a tweet.

Even Harris seemed to know she messed up. Politico reports that senior staffers for the VP “contacted the influential Democratic Majority for Israel to clean up” following the remarks.

“We were pleased Vice President Harris’s senior staff reached out to us today to confirm what we already knew: Her ‘commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering,’” the group’s president, Mark Mellman, said in a statement, according to Politico.

“The Biden-Harris Administration, as well as President Biden and Vice President Harris personally, have exemplary pro-Israel records, for which we are immensely grateful,” Mellman added. For many Americans, however, it’s going to take more than words to convince them that Harris actually has their best interests in mind.
