Ex-Clinton strategist says Justice Roberts could pick president amid mail-in voting chaos

While President Donald Trump has frequently voiced concerns about the security and reliability of mail-in ballots, Democrats have largely supported their widespread use amid a continuing public health crisis.

Former President Bill Clinton’s chief strategist raises a new concern, however, painting a scenario in which U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts would end up having the ultimate say about who will lead the nation for the next four years, as reported by the Daily Wire.

“I hope there won’t be civil war”

Dick Morris made his predictions as part of an interview on Sunday with New York radio host John Catsimatidis.

Their on-air conversation centered around the theory that President Donald Trump could be declared the winner on Election Day, only to be bested in the days to come as millions of mail-in ballots are tabulated.

At one point, Catsimatidis asked if there would be a “civil war” as a result of the dispute over election results.

“Well, there certainly will be major conflict,” Morris responded, according to the Daily Wire. “I hope there won’t be civil war and it’s serious enough that I don’t take your question metaphorically.”

“Tens of millions of ballots”

Morris went on to explain the clear partisan divide in voter perception regarding mail-in voting and its reliability, as reported by Breitbart.

“The blue state governors are mailing out tens of millions of ballots, and they’re going to be returned with a vote on them, probably for Biden,” he said. “And those people will not go to the polls to vote on Election Day.”

Taking the conversation a step further, Morris described a hypothetical scenario in which early reports show Trump with wins in “all the potential swing states” and “won a landslide” against Biden.

Over the next days and weeks, however, he said updated tallies would begin to show a different outcome altogether, inevitably leading to a lawsuit by the Trump campaign.

“But that suit will have to be in state court,” Morris added. “The state court judges are largely liberal, largely Democrat. And they are going to say, ‘Oh, we rule in favor of the state: Biden carried it.'”

The process would ultimately play out in the federal court system, he said, and “then the entire election will be in the hands literally of John Roberts.” An alternative, of course, would be a decisive victory that even endless recounts could not explain away.
