Donald Trump's attorney in the defamation case brought by former columnist E. Jean Carroll was scolded by the presiding judge for Trump's public comments on the case.
U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan took issue with Donald Trump's posts on Truth Social as "entirely inappropriate." Trump is being sued by Carroll who alleges that Trump raped her nearly thirty years ago. So far, she has yet to present solid evidence to support her claims which prompted Trump to call the accusations a "Hoax and a lie."
Carroll claimed Trump's response was defamation and that is where the legal battle is at today. Trump, who is famous for being blunt, has been extremely expressive during this case and Judge Kaplan didn't seem to appreciate it.
In an exchange with Trump's attorney Joe Tacopina, Kaplan claimed, "What you're trying to do is to get away from a statement by your client, a public statement, that on the face of it seems entirely inappropriate. We're getting into an area in which your client may or may not be tampering with a new source of potential liability, and I think you know what I mean."
Judge Kaplan seems to be no fan of Donald Trump and his social media statements which Tacopina claims are "out-of-court comments."
On Wednesday, Trump made two posts, one of which he used to point out that Carroll's case was being "financed by a big political donor that they tried to hide." That individual is billionaire Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn.
Hoffman has donated millions to Democrat candidates and causes nationwide and his presence in the Carroll case further indicates that the entire thing is a political hitjob.
Dmitri Mehlhorn, Hoffman's chief political advisor, explained Hoffman's political strategy saying, "Our political philanthropy is focused on weakening the political power of the anti-American Trump-MAGA movement."
Hoffman is dedicated to taking Trump and his movement down and pouring money into frivolous legal actions against Trump seems to fulfill that plan of weakening his political power.
What is strange is how Judge Kaplan took such offense at Donald Trump pointing Hoffman's involvement in the case out to the American public. Perhaps Judge Kaplan is also invested in taking Trump down with his judicial power.
Trump's other Truth Social post that earned Judge Kaplan's ire was one attacking Carroll directly. Trump stated that "She said there was a dress, using the ol' Monica Lewinsky 'stuff,' then she didn't want to produce it."
Carroll's accusations seem to fit a pattern that has emerged in the past few years.
Accuse a high-profile Republican of some horrific sexual crime decades ago and then crucify the supposed offender in the court of public opinion with little to no evidence to support the allegations.
The only question that remains is what will the jury do. Recent political cases have made it clear that the political orientation of the jury will determine the outcome of a case over the facts of the case.
