A gag order has now been imposed on former President Donald Trump's legal team.
Arthur Engoron, the judge presiding over the civil fraud trial that is taking place in New York, has issued the order, according to CBS News.
This is the same case in which New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) has accused Trump of having committed fraud by overvaluing his assets on financial forms. Engoron, who has deep Democratic ties, has already found Trump guilty of fraud, and, now, a juryless trial is taking place to determine how Trump will be penalized.
Trump maintains his innocence and continues to insist that this case is one of the many examples of America's legal system being weaponized by the Democrats against him, especially to hurt his 2024 presidential campaign.
According to CBS News, Engoron's latest gag order prevents Trump's legal team from publicly discussing any communication that Engoron has with members of his staff.
"Judge Arthur Engoron issued the order after a protracted back-and-forth with Christopher Kise, one of Trump's defense attorneys, who has taken issue with Engoron's close consultations with his law clerk," the outlet reports.
It continues, "In court on Friday, Kise alleged the clerk, Allison Greenfield, could be politically biased against Trump and raised concerns about the number of notes she has passed to the judge during the trial."
Greenfield, in some ways, has become the center of attention in this case, as she is now the cause of two gags orders, one issued by Engoron against Trump and one issued by Engoron against Trump's lawyers. The latter is explained above.
Engoron's gag order for Trump came after Trump posted to social media this message which highlighted a picture of Greenfield with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
Trump has since been fined twice by Engoron for violating the gag order by talking publicly about Greenfield.
Now, Engoron, according to CBS, is prohibiting Trump's legal team from "making any public statements, in or out of court, that refer to any confidential communications, in any form, between my staff and me."
In the meantime, Trump continues to rail against Engoron, James, and the case, in general.
In one of his latest social media posts, Trump accused Engoron of "doing this out of his personal 'Hatred of TRUMP'" and "his love of the publicity that this case is getting him."
Trump added:
Engoron is a wacko who is having a great time endlessly sanctioning, fining, & pushing around “TRUMP,” hurting my very good children, & working to damage & defame me for purposes of Interfering with the 2024 Presidential Election, all this while never admonishing our failed & corrupt Attorney General, whose “Star Witness” admitted he lied, & that I did NOT tell him to inflate values, a total reversal. Their whole case was based on this single LOSER, so it should be dismissed!
