John Walsh special includes speculation about Brian Laundrie’s possible whereabouts

A number of experts and media figures have remained intently focused on the ongoing investigation into the death of Gabby Petito and the subsequent disappearance of her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.

For his part, former America’s Most Wanted host John Walsh weighed in recently on Laundrie’s possible whereabouts, suggesting the person of interest might be hiding out in Mexico.

“Over a thousand solid tips”

Walsh hosted a special report in which he speculated that Laundrie’s parents have been helping him evade police.

He chronicled the story of Petito’s disappearance and death, indicating that a dedicated hotline has received “over a thousand solid tips” in recent weeks — including the claim that Laundrie’s father drove him to the southern border, allowing him to slip into Mexico.

“It’s a great time to be heading south, because [there are] thousands of refugees,” Walsh reasoned. “I mean, he could walk across the border naked with his hair on fire, and nobody would notice him. I think that’s maybe where he’s hiding — and somebody might be helping him.”

Other recent developments in the case include the coroner’s report showing that Petito died as a result of homicide caused by manual strangulation. She disappeared during a cross-country trip with Laundrie, who returned home without her and did not report her missing.

Just days before Petito’s remains were found in Wyoming, Laundrie also disappeared. Although he has not been named a suspect in her death, he is wanted by police on suspicion of illegally accessing her bank account to make unauthorized purchases.

“A very personal way to kill someone”

In his recent special, Walsh questioned Florida medical examiner Patricia Aronica about Petito’s cause of death. Calling manual strangulation “a very personal way to kill someone,” she said that it is usually committed by “someone you know well, who has been close and in your personal space.”

Of course, Walsh acknowledged that Laundrie is presumed innocent until proven guilty, noting that many of the tips received through the hotline were unfounded and unhelpful.

“We’ve got people from all over the world calling saying that Martians got him and took him to another planet, and he’s inside hiding in an alligator in a Louisiana swamp,” he said.

Another possible hideout Walsh mentioned is the Bahamas, which he said Laundrie could have accessed by ferry from Florida.

Of course, Laundrie’s attorney does not approve of Walsh’s speculation, asserting that he and other “dusty relics” are counting on “a tragic situation like this so they can clear the cobwebs off their names and give their publicity-hungry egos some food.”
