John Kerry leaving White House for Biden campaign

 January 15, 2024

Long past his sell-by date, John Kerry is holding onto political relevance with a new role on Joe Biden's 2024 campaign.

The news is the latest sign of Barack Obama's remarkable influence over Biden's presidency and re-election effort, which has faced criticism from Obama himself and some of his closest advisers.

Kerry is reportedly leaving his current role of climate czar to hit the campaign trail later this year.

Kerry's next move

The revolving door at the Biden White House has seen Obama veterans like Jen Psaki pass in and out with remarkable frequency.

Biden's term has been described by many observers as a continuation of the Obama presidency, with a radical, racially divisive domestic agenda and a foreign policy often criticized as weak on Iran.

Kerry, who served as Obama's Secretary of State from 2013 to 2017, helped implement the controversial Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate accord, both of which President Trump pulled the U.S. out of.

Under Biden, Kerry has been a regular target of criticism owing to his aggressive push for Biden's climate agenda. Kerry was often slammed as a hypocrite for his private jet travel.

Obama's fourth term?

With Kerry sticking around on Biden's campaign, it's clear as ever that four more years of Biden would be tantamount to a fourth Obama term.

Obama is rumored to be deeply concerned about signs of vulnerability in Biden's campaign, which has seen slipping support from key groups in the Democratic coalition including young voters and minorities.

Tensions are running high between the Obama and Biden camps, with some Obama allies fretting that Biden's team doesn't "have its s*** together."

It is expected that Obama will campaign heavily for Biden when the time comes - and now Kerry will be joining the effort to push Biden past the finish line.

Hillary Clinton, an Obama ally who like Kerry is a former Secretary of State and presidential election loser, is also joining Biden's campaign as a surrogate.

It says something about the party and its lack of talent that they rely on the same has-beens to stay in power.

The blue-blooded Kerry, in many ways a poster boy for the ruling class that champions Biden, will join the Davos set in Switzerland this week to discuss the climate agenda.
