Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara finalize divorce

 February 11, 2024

Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara have finalized their divorce.

People magazine reports, "Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello have reached an agreement to finalize their divorce."

The agreement comes roughly seven months after the couple first filed for divorce, and the filing followed seven years of marriage.

For those unfamiliar with Manganiello and Vergara, they are both actors. Vergara is perhaps best known for her role in ABC's Modern Family, while Manganiello has played roles in numerous television shows and films.

The details

People has managed to obtain some of the circumstances of the divorce agreement.

For one thing, it appears that Manganiello and Vergara reached the agreement without the need of any contentious litigation, which might suggest that the divorce was relatively amicable.

People reports:

According to a filing obtained by PEOPLE on Friday, the divorce case is proceeding as an uncontested action, meaning both parties appeared and "entered into a written agreement regarding their property and their marriage ... which is being or has been submitted to the court."

The specifics regarding the property are unclear, but People does report that Manganiello "asked the court to terminate spousal support for both parties and attorney fees will be ordered as set forth in the proposed judgment, per the docs."

At the time of this writing, neither Manganiello nor Vergara has released a statement regarding the finalization of their divorce. Multiple outlets, though, have reached out to them for one.

The "why?"

Manganiello and Vergara first announced their divorce with a statement that they released in July 2023. In the statement, they wrote, "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."

Two days after this statement that the pair officially filed for divorce. It was Manganiello who filed the paperwork with the court, and, in this paperwork, he cited "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of the breakup.

More details about these "irreconcilable differences" were revealed in January 2024, when Vergara spoke with the Spanish newspaper El Pais. According to Vergara, she and Manganiello decided to split because they disagreed about whether or not to have children.

She said:

My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.

Now, less than a month after this interview, the divorce is official.
