Rumors are swirling in way that must have 2020 hopeful Joe Biden’s supporters worried.
A sudden disappearance from the spotlight just days before the New Hampshire primary has many wondering whether Biden’s campaign is on its last legs.
Where’s Joe Biden
This past Thursday, while his rivals, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, were giving interviews and making television appearances, Biden was missing in action.
Where was he? Why wasn’t he campaigning?
According to the Washington Post, “Biden spent Thursday gathered with his top advisers at his home in Wilmington, Delaware, seeking a reset and perhaps a last-ditch effort to save his candidacy, beginning with a debate Friday night. He held no public events.”
That certainly doesn’t sound good for the guy who, since announcing his candidacy, has been considered the Democratic frontrunner.
This, of course, comes on the heels of the recent Iowa primary in which Biden flopped. With 100% of the results now in, Biden has received just 15.8% of the vote, which puts him in fourth place.
In front of him are Buttigieg and Sanders, who are leading the way, respectively, with 26.2% and 26.1% of the vote. Then, in third place, is Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) at 18%.
“I’m not going to sugarcoat it,” Biden told an audience in New Hampshire on Wednesday. “We took a gut punch in Iowa.” Presumably, it is this gut punch that caused Biden and his team to “reset” on Thursday.
With the New Hampshire primary right around the corner, there isn’t too much downtime for Biden.
According to the Post, “Following dismal results in the Iowa caucuses that have rattled many in his orbit, his campaign is now simultaneously trying to lower expectations here [in New Hampshire] — with some suggesting they would consider a finish as low as third place a victory — while also bracing for a second straight difficult Election Day.”
If this is indeed the case, then Biden is going to have to make a massive comeback if he is going to face Trump this November. But, as things currently stand, it is looking more and more likely that Biden is just not the Democrats’ guy.
