Actor Jim Carrey will no longer play Joe Biden on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Actor Jim Carrey, a frequent detractor of President Donald Trump and the Trump family, will no longer play former Vice President Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live, the Daily Wire reported Sunday.

Carrey has been one of several actors, including Woody Harrelson and Jason Sudeikis, to play the role of Biden throughout this year’s SNL season. The role will now be taken over by SNL cast member Alex Moffat.

Why now?

The official story being pushed by both Carrey and SNL as the reason for his departure is that he was never meant to portray Biden for more than a six-week period.

“Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President…comedy’s highest call of duty,” the actor tweeted Saturday.

He continued: “I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that s***. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!”

This apparent agreement between SNL and Carrey stands in contrast to that of some of the show’s other celebrity impersonators, such as Alec Baldwin, who has played President Donald Trump on the show throughout the past four years.

What’s really going on?

Some are speculating that Carrey is not continuing on SNL simply because his Biden impersonation wasn’t very good.

“Saturday Night Live has a Jim Carrey problem,” Vanity Fair wrote in October. “He gives a bad Joe Biden when the country has never needed a good Joe Biden more.”

The outlet critiqued Carrey’s impersonation, writing that it seems the actor is “stuck doing uncomfortable schtick at half speed. You can almost feel him bristling to push the bit further into some exaggerated insanity, which will only grate worse. He’s a monkey tasked with playing a tortoise,” Vanity Fair added.

It’s over

Whatever the case may be, Carrey is now gone.

And if there are any Republican SNL fans — unlikely though it is — they likely won’t miss him.

Over the past few years, Carrey has launched some of the most disturbing attacks against the president and other Republicans, including grotesque paintings depicting Trump and his family being assassinated, the Daily Wire noted. Good riddance.
