President Donald Trump has long said that America’s students should return to their classrooms this fall despite concerns over COVID-19. Now, the president’s family is showing they’re all-in on that message.
According to The Hill, Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, confirmed rumors on Sunday that his own children — the president’s grandchildren — will be going back to school this fall in-person.
“Absolutely,” Kushner told CBS News host Margaret Brennan when asked if he’s sending his kids back to the classroom, according to The Hill.
Kushner also said on Sunday’s episode of Face the Nation that he’s not concerned about his children potentially being exposed to the coronavirus, The Hill reported.
“I have no fear”
The coronavirus has infected some 5.4 million Americans and killed at least 170,000, according to The New York Times. But as cases die down across the country — and as the media shifts focus away from the pandemic — Kusher says the threat, particularly to children, is actually quite low.
“Children have a six times higher chance to die from the flu than from the coronavirus, so based on the data I’ve seen, I don’t believe that’s a risk,” Kusher told Brennan on Sunday, according to The Hill.
The president’s son-in-law went on to say that the coronavirus “impacts different people at different rates.”
“Our school’s not opening back up five days a week. I wish they would, but we absolutely will be sending our kids back to school, and I have no fear in doing so,” he added, according to The Hill.

The science behind it
Kushner’s assertions on Sunday have been backed up by numerous studies suggesting that it’s safe to send students back to the classroom this fall. Some commentators have also noted that without in-person classes, many students don’t get the attention they need — and after a rocky end to the 2019-2020 school year, it’s vital that we help America’s kids get back on track.
This is something that the president and his family understand — and they’re willing to lead by example. But despite holding “science” on a pedestal, it seems Democrats aren’t willing to do the same when it might mean giving President Trump a victory ahead of Election Day. It’s truly a shame that they can never seem to put everyday Americans ahead of their anti-Trump agenda.
