Special Counsel Jack Smith's seemingly never-ending quest to hamstring former President Donald Trump took another twist this week.

According to Breitbart, in January, Smith and his team were able to convince a judge that they needed a search warrant for Trump's Twitter account.

The reason why that was revealed was due to the fact that Twitter was fined $350,000 for failing to initially comply with the request, prompting the company to take legal action.

Breitbart noted: "The details were included in a decision from the federal appeals court in Washington rejecting Twitter’s claim that it should not have been held in contempt or sanctioned."

"Criminal offenses"

Smith was able to get the search warrant for Trump's Twitter account after it convinced a judge that his office "found probable cause to search the Twitter account for evidence of criminal offenses."

Even more bizarre is that Smith was able to put a non-disclosure in place to stop Twitter from revealing that the search warrant was obtained.

Breitbart noted:

The court found that disclosing the warrant could risk that Trump would “would seriously jeopardize the ongoing investigation” by giving him “an opportunity to destroy evidence, change patterns of behavior,” the filing says.

Twitter reported "did not question the validity of the search warrant," but argued at the time that the NDA was a First Amendment violation.

At the time Twitter insisted that the court review the request to "assess the legality" before moving forward with complying with the warrant.

Trump responds

The former president was quick to respond to the situation when the news was revealed this week, leaving no uncertainty in how he felt about his Twitter account being raided.

"Just found out that Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ secretly attacked my Twitter account, making it a point not to let me know about this major “hit” on my civil rights. My Political Opponent is going CRAZY trying to infringe on my Campaign for President. Nothing like this has ever happened before," Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

Trump added, "Does the First Amendment still exist? Did Deranged Jack Smith tell the Unselects to DESTROY & DELETE all evidence? These are DARK DAYS IN AMERICA!"

The former president could soon face a fourth indictment out of Georgia. He continues to maintain strong and decisive leads in most national and state polling.
