Ilhan Omar, other top Dems caught breaking House rules: Report

Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (NY), and Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN) are among the loudest voices in the Democratic Party railing about “dark money.” But as it turns out, all three of them are part of a group that is funded with dark money that is being used by all three of them — which is against House rules.

While Nancy Pelosi is unlikely to punish her party members for their egregious affiliation with the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center (CPCC), conservatives everywhere are calling for their removals.

Breaking the Law

What these Democrats are doing breaks so many rules, it is hard to find a place to start.

First, House rules do not allow congressional caucuses to accept funding from outside groups.

Furthermore, it is illegal for a non-profit organization to benefit only one party or only a small group of individuals.

In this case, both are taking place.

“This whole scheme is a direct violation of federal law requiring Congress to utilize only appropriated funds for its operations,” said Cleta Mitchell, an attorney specializing in political law. “There are so many legal issues with this setup: violations of federal law, violations of House rules, and complete disregard for the rule of law.”

That last part is especially interesting, as that specific phrase — “disregard for the rule of law” — has been thrown about by Dems more in the last two years than at any other time in recent history.

Punishing the Culprits

As speaker of the House, it will be up to Pelosi to hold Omar, AOC, and company responsible for their actions. In all likelihood, though, she is going to let them both slide and claim they were ignorant of the law.

But if, in fact, she does take that route, she will only help the case of Donald Trump Jr., who many Democrats believe should have been indicted for conspiracy.

Robert Mueller chose not to indict Don Jr. because he believed he was unaware of campaign laws that could have gotten him into trouble over meetings held at Trump Tower.

If Pelosi pleads ignorance to let those two off the hook, she will have no choice but to back up Mueller’s decision on Donald Trump, Jr.

This really puts Democrats in a bind, because they would be forced to severely discipline both freshman congresswomen rather than issue a nonsense censure if they want to bury Trump Jr.

Our guess is they will try to keep this under the radar as much as possible in the hopes that someone does not pick up on it. Too late!
