Rep. Ilhan Omar slams capital punishment after Attorney General Bill Barr gives the OK

On Thursday, Attorney General William Barr OK’d the use of the death penalty after more than 20 years without a federal execution — but not everyone was on board.

Unsurprisingly, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) wasted no time in expressing her outrage over the Trump administration’s move to end the lives of criminals who committed unforgivable acts of malice for which lifetime behind bars just isn’t sufficient punishment.

Cruel and unusual?

Linking to an article from HuffPost about Barr’s decision to resume the use of capital punishment, Omar published a tweet on Thursday calling the death penalty a “heinous, totalitarian practice.”

Of course, the denunciation of the death penalty by Omar — among many others on the left — is rather ironic in light of her staunch support for abortion, which is the “heinous” murder of undeniably “innocent” unborn babies — but that’s beside the point.

Far from innocent

Omar made clear in her tweet that “innocent people” are often unfairly executed by the government — but that’s far from the truth for the five cases that the Justice Department has lined up.

Indeed, Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra outlined in a series of tweets the terrible crimes committed by those on death row — and they are most certainly not “innocent people.”

“Alfred Bourgeois,” Saavedra began, “physically and emotionally tortured, sexually molested, and then beat to death his 2-year-old daughter.”

And it only gets worse from there. Also on death row is Dustin Lee Honken, who Saavedra reports “shot and killed 5 people — 2 men who planned to testify against him and a single, working mother and her 10-year-old and 6-year-old daughters.” He went on:

“Wesley Ira Purkey,” Saavedra added, “violently raped and murdered a 16-year-old girl, and then dismembered, burned, and dumped her body in a septic pond. He also used a claw hammer to bludgeon to death an 80-year-old woman who suffered from polio and walked with a cane.”

These are the people Omar and her cronies are defending. Anything to stand against Trump and his administration, eh?
