Fashion icon Gloria Vanderbilt dead at 95

One of the biggest names the fashion industry has ever known is gone.

Gloria Vanderbilt, an absolute legend in the fashion world, has passed away at the age of 95.

Rags to Riches

If there was ever a story that epitomized the American dream, it is the story of Gloria Vanderbilt.

She was a child of the Great Depression. Her family history is littered with tragedy and challenges.

Her personal history is not much better, having gone through several marriages. Vanderbilt actually claimed through all of her marriages, there was only one that made her truly happy.

That marriage was to author Wyatt Cooper. Cooper, unfortunately, died far too young at the age of 50 in 1978.

All the while, she built an empire that is almost unrivaled in the fashion world. During the 1970s and 1980s, you could not go more than a few steps without seeing her jeans walking in front of you.

Did You Know…

Something that not a lot of people realize is that CNN’s Anderson Cooper is related to Vanderbilt. He is actually her son.

Many viewers did not actually know this until Cooper announced the death of his mother on his social media accounts. According to the post, Gloria died at home in the company of family and friends.

He wrote: “Gloria Vanderbilt was an extraordinary woman, who loved life and lived it on her own terms. She was a painter, a writer, and designer but also a remarkable mother, wife, and friend.”

He went on: “She was 95 years old, but ask anyone close to her, and they’d tell you, she was the youngest person they knew, the coolest, and most modern.”

Rest in peace, Gloria. You were truly something special.
