Former President Donald Trump entered the White House in 2016 with two distinguishable goals: to create jobs and to secure the nation’s southern border.
Now, President Joe Biden is killing off all Trump’s progress on both fronts. According to Breitbart, a bombshell report from The Washington Post recently revealed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are no longer allowed to deport illegal immigrants who are busted taking American jobs.
Under the administration of former President Barack Obama, lax policies on deportation meant that illegal immigrants could essentially take American jobs — working for much less than required by federal law — and not feel too concerned about being deported if they were caught.
By contrast, the Trump administration was aggressive on immigration policy, and those who were caught for essentially any level of crime faced deportation, unless they were lucky enough to be a resident of a “sanctuary city” that afforded them some level of protection.
Fast-forward to the Biden administration, and the situation is changing rapidly; undocumented immigrants who are arrested for most crimes — aside from terrorism or national security-level threats — will not be deported under Biden’s reign, according to the Post.
The bad policy
The policy comes as part of a directive given to ICE in Biden’s first week in the White House.
“They’ve abolished ICE without abolishing ICE,” an agency official told the Post, according to Breitbart. “It literally feels like we’ve gone from the ability to fully enforce our immigration laws to now being told to enforce nothing.”
According to Breitbart, Rob Law, policy director at the Center for Immigration Studies, said Biden’s policy is so extreme — in the opposite direction of Trump’s — that it “is a green light to businesses to discriminate against Americans.”
The bottom line
Making matters worse, the Congressional Budget Office recently released a statement indicating that the American job economy will likely not be back on track until the year 2024 — and, as Breitbart also reported, that’s barring anything wild that could pop up before then.
Complicating matters is the fact that Biden continues to roll back Trump-era immigration policies. In the most recent example, Biden reauthorized the “catch-and-release” program, which essentially means that if an undocumented immigrant is arrested, they can be released back into the streets on the promise that they’ll show back up for their immigration hearing.
As immigration hearings are often delayed months or even years, these migrants will undoubtedly seek employment in the meantime — which will most certainly hurt the chances of American job seekers who are desperately attempting to find work more than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic.
The bottom line is that America is truly in for a very rough couple of years ahead — maybe more — as long as Biden continues to implement what appears to be an open-borders policy on immigration.
