A number of high-profile Democrats — and the bulk of the mainstream media — provided unprecedented cover for then-candidate Joe Biden when it was revealed by the New York Post that a laptop allegedly belonging to his son, Hunter, was full of damaging revelations in the form of photos, texts, and emails that painted an ugly picture of Hunter’s business dealings and personal life.
Though some of those people publicly dismissed the idea that the laptop was genuinely one previously owned by Hunter Biden, that narrative came crashing down this week when the president’s son confessed during a bombshell CBS interview that the infamous laptop “could” have been his, according to Breitbart.
A quick refresher
The laptop in question, which was made public in the lead-up to the 2020 election after it was reportedly left at a computer repair shop in the Bidens’ home state of Delaware, was an absolute treasure trove of politically damaging information.
But thanks to what felt to many like collusion between Twitter, the mainstream media, and powerful Democrats in Congress, information from the laptop, which provided strong evidence that Hunter Biden — along with his dad and uncle — had engaged in some shady business dealings, was dismissed at the time as another form of Russian interference.
Many argue that the information contained on that laptop could have had a tremendous impact on the 2020 election, perhaps enough to give former President Donald Trump the win, something many in the media and in Congress wanted so desperately to prevent.
Twitter went as far as completely censoring any links to the story at the time, including the original reporting on the scandal by the New York Post, in a move that was later publicly regretted by the social media company’s CEO, Jack Dorsey.
The laptop was eventually turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) — and while the headlines from Fox News and other outlets that covered the scandal were brutal, the Biden family dodged a major political bullet thanks to the shielding they were afforded in what probably should have been one of the most impactful political scandals in recent U.S. history.
Biden spills the beans
Of course, the scandal hasn’t died yet. CBS’s Sunday Morning host Tracy Smith sat down with the president’s son in a recent interview and hit Hunter Biden with the burning question of whether the laptop was, in fact, his.
“For real, I don’t know,” the president’s son said, according to Breitbart. “I really don’t know.”
When Smith asked junior Biden whether the laptop “could have been yours,” his answer quickly changed, though he made sure to slide in the “Russia” narrative that Democrats like to hear.
“Of course, certainly,” Hunter Biden replied, as Breitbart reported. “There could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be that I was hacked. It could be that was the— that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me.”
Only time will tell if Hunter Biden’s weak admission will lead to any further investigation, but given the media’s continued strong shielding of anything damaging against President Biden, the chances of it happening any time soon seem decidedly slim.
