House Jan. 6 committee claims it has enough evidence to indict Trump

The New York Post reports that, over the weekend, members of the House committee that is “investigating” the events of Jan. 6, 2021, expressed their belief that there is enough evidence for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to indict former President Donald Trump.

“For what?” you may ask.

Presumably, for inciting and insurrection. That is the narrative that the committee pushed during the hearing that it held last Thursday.

As for what specific criminal laws Trump broke, though, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), one of the members of the Jan. 6 committee, says that the committee has already sent to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland a list of criminal statutes that they believe that Trump violated with regard to Jan. 6, 2021. But, Raskin hasn’t said what those statutes are.

“Very powerful” evidence

Remember Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the congressman who vigorously pushed the now-debunked Trump-Russia collusion theory?

He is on the Jan. 6 committee, and he appeared on ABC’s This Week on Sunday where he argued that the evidence against Trump is “very powerful” and that, therefore, the DOJ ought to at least investigate, if not outright indict, Trump.

“Once the evidence is accumulated by the Justice Department, it needs to make a decision about whether it can prove to a jury beyond a reasonable doubt the president’s guilt or anyone else’s,” Schiff said. “But they need to be investigated if there’s credible evidence, which I think there is.”

Why anyone would listen to Schiff after his part in the Russia Collusion Hoax is anybody’s guess.

Looking ahead

If you thought the Jan. 6 clown show was over following last week’s televised hearing, think again. More hearings will take place this week.

It remains unclear whether Garland and the DOJ would actually indict Trump. No president or ex-president has ever been indicted by the DOJ. And, one would think that more convincing “evidence” than what has already been presented would be needed for Garland to consider taking that step.

But, the Democrats aren’t just doing this to indict Trump. They are trying to distract Americans from all of the crises that the country is facing under the current Democratic leadership in order to try to turn people off from voting Republican in the midterm elections. Their other goal, of course, is to hurt Trump’s reputation such that he is not a viable presidential candidate in 2024.

One would think that trying to fix some of the problems that they have caused would be a better strategy to garner support. But, this is what they’re going with – another attack on the former president. We’ll see how that works for them.
