Report: Hot mic catches Kamala Harris asking staffer where she is

There are times when California Sen. Kamala Harris (D) makes us question whether she’s really qualified to be vice president of the United States. This weekend was one of those times.

According to Breitbart, the Democrat vice presidential hopeful seemed to forget where she was during a Saturday campaign stop. Harris was caught on a hot mic asking a staffer, “Are we in Cleveland?”

The mic was hot

A video of the incident was first tweeted out by an account managed by President Donald Trump’s campaign team.

In the clip, Harris can be seen standing outside a group of supporters, wearing a mask, when someone hands her a microphone.

From there, it seems clear that the campaign trail has been a long road for Kamala Harris. The vice presidential nominee and junior senator from California almost goes to speak, but then catches herself, turns around, and asks a staff member where she is.

After her staffer gave her the answer, Harris turned back around to face her supporters and said proudly, “Hey Cleveland! It’s Kamala!”

Battle for the Buckeye State

Harris was indeed on the campaign trail in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday — even if she didn’t really know it. The Buckeye State is a key battleground going into November’s election, and both Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden have been fighting hard for it.

Part of that effort by Biden’s camp included Harris’ stop at the Tri-C Cleveland campus, where about 75 individuals came out in support, according to WOIO in Cleveland.

In the latest FiveThirtyEight aggregate of polls, the Biden–Harris campaign was virtually tied with Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in Ohio. The trend, however, seems to be leaning in the president’s favor.

Trump did take all of Ohio’s 18 electoral votes in the 2016 election, as The New York Times reported. It won’t be long now until we’ll find out whether he can repeat that result this time around.
