As Kamala Harris denounces ICE, Honduran immigrant faces charges in death of New Jersey nanny

Among the many prominent Democrats who have come out in against the enforcement of our immigration laws, California Sen. Kamala Harris has arguably been the most extreme. (She has even compared ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, to the Ku Klux Klan.)

That’s not a good look for the 2020 hopeful, especially as yet another illegal immigrant faces arrest for the murder of a New Jersey nanny.

Dead body of nanny found in Jersey City lake

A local NBC affiliate station reported last week that authorities discovered a body in a small park lake in Jersey City, NJ on March 24.

The body was later identified as Peru-native Carolina Cano, who lived a short distance away from the park.

Authorities ruled her death a homicide after finding strangulation marks on her neck.

Cano’s roommate told authorities that the 45-year-old nanny had gone out for a jog that morning, as was her routine, but she never returned home afterward.

Cano was described as a God-fearing woman who worked hard and kept herself out of trouble.

Alien from Honduras charged with murder

A local ABC affiliate reported on Monday that a review of surveillance cameras led to the arrest of a suspect in the case: a 33-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras named Jorge Rios, who also lives near the park.

Video appeared to show Rios following Cano as she jogged through the park. Authorities believe Rios attempted to rape Cano prior to strangling and submerging her in the water.

The medical examiner’s office determined that Cano’s cause of death was strangulation and drowning.

Authorities believe the attack was random.

The Hudson County prosecutor’s office has charged Rios with kidnapping, felony murder, and aggravated sexual assault. He is scheduled for an arraignment and detention hearing on April 4.
