With the collusion narrative dead, Democrats have now moved the goalposts to focus on obstruction of justice, with a side dish of attacking Attorney General William Barr for an alleged lack of independence from President Trump.
Former Obama administration Attorney General Eric Holder is one of those slamming Barr for supposedly being too close to Trump, but his hypocrisy is easily exposed by virtue of his self-admitted role as former President Barack Obama’s “wingman” just four years ago.
Holder blasts Barr’s relationship with Trump
Holder issued sharp criticism against Barr and his relationship with Trump while speaking at an event in Chicago.
With regard to Barr, Holder said, “He’s making mistakes. The attorney general of the United States is the people’s lawyer, not the president’s lawyer.”
“When I was being confirmed, I was made to understand the attorney general of the United States is not the ‘secretary of justice,’” Holder continued. “You’re different from any other cabinet member, given all the power you have to deprive people of their liberty, take their property away.”
The guiding principle, according to Holder, is that attorneys general are supposed to be non-political and maintain a special level of independence from the president.
Holder added, “The greatst attorneys general have been the ones who have had that indpendence, like Elliott Richardson, [President Richard] Nixon’s attorney general and one of my heroes, fired by Nixon for refusing to fire independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox in the wake of Watergate.”
Bragged about status as Obama’s “wingman”
However, it was only a few years ago that Holder was boasting to a member of the media about his close relationship with his boss, President Obama.
Speaking in 2013 to liberal radio host Tom Joyner in response to a question about whether he would remain in his role for the rest of Obama’s term in office, Holder initially demurred as Joyner begged him to stay on the job.
“I’m happy, I’m still enjoying what I’m doing. There’s still work to be done. I’m still the president’s wingman, I’m there with my boy,” Holder replied.
Eric Holder did his best to hit both AG Barr and President Trump with a wild swing, but only succeeded in knocking himself out by exposing his own self-serving and duplicitous hypocrisy.
The left’s double standards are out in the open yet again for all to see.
