Hillary Clinton’s supporters agree that she ought not to run for president

Recently, Hillary Clinton stated that she will not be making another attempt at the U.S. presidency.

Now, Fox News has published a report revealing that advisers and supporters are in agreement that Clinton has made the right decision.

Background

There has been much speculation about whether Hillary Clinton will make another attempt at the U.S. presidency, particularly with it seeming as though the Democrats are lacking a strong candidate for 2024. Combine with this the fact that Clinton, seemingly, still has not gotten over her 2016 defeat to former President Donald Trump.

Clinton, however, recently put an end to the speculation – or so it would appear. During an interview with CBS regarding her new Apple TV+ program Gutsy, Clinton was asked whether she would “ever run for president again.”

Clinton replied, “no, no, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that we have a president who respects our democracy and the rule of law and upholds our institutions.”

The interviewer, Norah O’Donnell, followed this response up by asking Clinton, “what if Donald Trump runs again?”

“He should be soundly defeated,” Clinton replied. “It should start in the Republican Party – grow a backbone! Stand up to this guy! And heaven forbid if he gets the nomination, he needs to be defeated roundly and sent back to Mar-a-Lago.”

It’s the right move

According to Fox’s latest report, Clinton’s advisers and supporters believe that she is making the right move here. In fact, some advisers with whom Fox spoke bluntly stated that Clinton is in no position to run for the U.S. presidency.

“Her numbers are not such that running for president would be productive, so she’s unlikely to be a serious candidate and is [polling] 5 points lower than Trump,” said Mark Penn, a strategist who has spent a lot of time working with Clinton in the past.

Another question altogether is whether Clinton is being forthright here, or whether she is just, for the time being, claiming that she will not run again. After all, her recent appearances make it clear that she is still very much into the political scene.

Jehmu Green, however, a former Clinton surrogate, said, “I believe her.” Green added:

These days she’s more likely to be hanging with Kardashians, not campaigning. From rocking fashion forward caftans on red carpets to owning the stage on The View this morning, on the eve of her Netflix premiere, planning another presidential campaign is highly unlikely.

We’ll see if Green turns out to be right. Clinton’s political popularity does seem to be waning. But, somehow, it still would not be surprising to see Clinton make another attempt at the presidency. Time will tell.
