Political consultant Dick Morris, a former aide to Bill Clinton, believes that Hillary Clinton may be positioning herself to make a run at the U.S. presidency in 2024, the New York Post reports.
“I see more and more signs that Hillary’s going to run,” Morris said recently on the WABC 770 AM radio show.
Background
One of the things that suggested to Morris that Clinton is positioning herself for a run at the U.S. presidency in 2024 is Clinton’s recent comments on the southern border crisis.
In case you missed it, they came during an interview that Clinton participated in on MSNBC after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) flew a group of illegal immigrants from Florida to Martha’s Vineyard.
Clinton, in the interview, slammed DeSantis for the move, even going so far as to say that the move amounts to “human trafficking.” This was expected from Clinton.
But, what was not expected from Clinton is this statement: “Nobody wants open borders who has any idea of how government and countries work.”
This flat-out contradicts the position that has been taken by President Joe Biden, his administration, and many Democrats.
“Dusting off Bill’s playbook”
Morris believes that Clinton, here, is employing an election strategy that he developed for Bill Clinton in 1992.
Morris explained:
These are all signals that she is going to be the moderate candidate for president. She’s going to say after the election, “See, the left cost us the House and the Senate. If we stay with a left-wing candidate in 2024, we’re going to lose the White House. I’m the only one who will tack to the center and give us a chance at victory.”
Morris subsequently added, “Hillary is just dusting off Bill‘s playbook that I wrote for him and applying it herself this year.”
Clinton, for her part, has insisted that she will not be running for the U.S. presidency again. In an interview that took place in early September, Clinton, when asked about a 2024 bid, said, “No, no, but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that we have a president who respects our democracy and the rule of law and upholds our institutions.”
That being said, there is certainly some sense to what Morris has to say.
