Hillary Clinton struggled to contain her delight at the unfolding legal persecution of Donald Trump, saying the "system is working" in an interview with conspiracy theorist and Clinton super-fan Rachel Maddow.
The twice-failed presidential candidate feigned "sadness" over the unprecedented scenario of an American president facing so many criminal charges.
"It’s hard to believe. I don’t feel satisfaction, but I feel great profound sadness that we have a former president who has been indicted for so many charges that went right to the heart of whether or not our democracy would survive," she said.
Trump is now facing four indictments, all from leftist prosecutors in heavily blue jurisdictions. The seemingly coordinated witch hunt shows that the "system is working," Clinton - with a barely concealed relish - said.
"I don’t know that anybody should be satisfied. This is a terrible moment for our country to have a former president accused of these terribly important crimes. The only satisfaction may be that the system is working," she said.
Clinton said that Trump "set out to defraud the U.S. and citizens of our nation" in Georgia, where he faces new charges relating to the 2020 election.
"All of the efforts by Donald Trump, allies and enablers to try to silence the truth and try to undermine democracy have been brought into the light. Justice is being pursued.”
The irony of Clinton's comments is overwhelming. This is the same woman who orchestrated a massive disinformation campaign to discredit her election loss in 2016 as the product of "Russian collusion," a baseless lie - boosted aggressively by Maddow - that divided the country and eroded faith in elections.
Now, Clinton is intoning solemnly about Trump's "defrauding" the people. You can't make it up.
As for the "system is working" nonsense, the evidence of political corruption in the justice system is plain.
Clinton would know - she got away with mishandling top secret classified e-mails in 2016, but Trump is facing death in prison for his alleged mishandling of classified information (which, as president, he was able to declassify.)
Clinton knows the "system" works in her favor and Democrats like her, so her faith in "the system" is anything but surprising.
She's not the only Democrat to express trust in "the system," either, with Obama making similar comments recently.
This isn't about justice - it's about revenge. Democrats have never been able to forgive Trump for defeating Clinton in 2016 - and now, they're taking unprecedented steps to ensure nothing like it ever happens again.
