Hillary Clinton has confirmed many Republicans’ worst fears: H.R. 1, a new bill recently passed by the House, is a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for Democrats, she said. And if they succeed, it will change how U.S. elections are run forever.
According to Breitbart, Clinton wrote in a tweet Thursday that the U.S. Senate “must pass” House Dems’ so-called For the People Act, citing a quote from the late Rep. John Lewis.
“My friend John Lewis said, ‘The vote is precious. It is almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have in a democratic society,'” Clinton wrote. “We now have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect it.”

Americans “should be OUTRAGED”
The bill in question largely cements the changes that were made to state election rules ahead of November 2020. According to a separate report from Breitbart, the measure includes a provision declaring voter ID laws and other registration procedures “restrictions on the right to vote,” calls for automatic voter registration, and even protects undocumented immigrants who are registered to cast their ballots.
The bill would also “[prevent] states from purging ineligible voters from rolls,” Breitbart reports, and requires states to allow vote-by-mail without asking for the voter’s identification.
Dems like Clinton say the measure is meant to protect Americans’ “sacred” right to vote. But the reality is that H.R. 1 will destroy the integrity of our elections and render our power to vote meaningless — and that hasn’t been lost on Republican Rep. Steve Scalise (LA).
“Every single American should be OUTRAGED by this: Democrats just voted to ban voter ID nationwide and force every state to permanently expand mail-in voting,” Scalise said in a tweet Wednesday.
H.R. 1: A disaster for America
Scalise’s sentiment was shared by a number of state attorneys general, who reportedly sent a letter to House and Senate leadership warning that H.R. 1 is egregiously unconstitutional.
In their letter, the AGs wrote: “The Act’s regulation of congressional elections, including by mandating mail-in voting, requiring states to accept late ballots, overriding state voter identification (‘ID’) laws, and mandating that states conduct redistricting through unelected commissions, also faces severe constitutional hurdles.”
According to Breitbart, the attorneys also warned that the For the People Act would only sow more of the chaos Americans experienced during the 2020 election season, asserting, “Around the nation, the 2020 general elections generated mass confusion and distrust — problems that the Act would only exacerbate.”
The reality is that Democrats are trying to weaken election security, but thankfully, Republicans in Washington have held out against it — at least up to this point. Simply put, H.R. 1 is a disaster for America, and those in the GOP should be adamant about telling their senators exactly why they should vote against it.
