Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may soon be stripped of their Royal Titles, according to a new report from the Daily Mail.
Per the outlet:
Parliament could consider the "nuclear option" of stripping Harry and Meghan of their royal titles under bombshell legislation to be proposed this week.
Harry and Meghan have already lost the ability to use "His Royal Highness" and "Her Royal Highness." They lost this when they gave up their official Royal duties in 2020.
Now, Harry and Meghan could also lose their "Duke and Dutchess" titles.
It comes from Conservative MP Bob Seely. Seely's bill is titled, "a Bill to amend [the Act] to deprive in certain circumstances Princes of their British Dignities and Titles."
"The Isle of Wight MP wants to adapt laws originally passed in the First World War to deny enemy German nobles their British titles. His Bill would force the Commons to consider turning Harry and Meghan into plain Mr and Mrs Sussex . . ." The Daily Mail reports.
"Why now?" you may ask. The answer is a new book, called Endgame, by author Omid Scobie.
The Sun reports, "The hatchet-job book claimed King Charles and Princess Kate made comments about Archie's skin color."
Archie is the son of Meghan and Harry.
Seely says that the racism claim is what is really driving his legislation to strip Megan and Harry of their titles. The PM said:
Of all the damaging insults to throw, 'racism' is the most poisonously insidious, guaranteed to leave a whiff of stigma and impossible to prove when false. It is the catch-all slur of the modern era.
Sources have denied that Megan and Harry had anything to do with the racism claim. But, Seely has said that he "suspects that few people believe such denials."
The reader may remember Harry and Megan's infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they claimed that a member of the Royal Family, before the birth of Archie, said something about the baby's skin color.
The big question going forward is whether Seely is going to be able to get his legislation passed, and, ultimately, whether Harry and Meghan will lose their "Duke" and "Dutchess" royal titles. The answer, at the time of this writing, is unclear.
Thus far, Harry and Meghan have not made a public statement on the matter. It is also being reported that Buckingham Palace is conducting its own investigation of the situation.
