Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) just launched her 2020 presidential campaign, and she’s already being called the front runner in the packed field of candidates. But less than 10 days into her campaign, Harris is already messing up on Twitter.
Harris posted a photo to Twitter that featured her laughing alongside Georgia Democrat Stacy Abrams — but failed to notice an apparently homeless man asleep or passed out on a bench in the background.
Two top Democratic stars
Harris intended to draw attention to the fact that Abrams, the failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate, had been chosen by Democratic Party leadership to deliver the official rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Feb. 5.
Harris tweeted, “Congratulations to my friend
@staceyabrams! There’s no better person to showcase our country’s strengths and speak the truth after the State of the Union.”

Showcasing our strengths?
While the majority of the comments on Harris’s post were from Democratic supporters, a few astute observers noticed the homeless man on the bench in the background.
One Twitter user replied, “‘Showcase our countries strengths’??? There is literally a dude passed out drunk or dead in the corner of this picture. You leftists can’t even clean up your own districts. Why would we trust you with the whole country?

Another user posted a zoomed-in part of the photo.

To be sure, it is likely that neither Harris nor Abrams even noticed the man laid out on the bench when they initially posed for the photo.
After all, Harris spent years as the District Attorney in San Francisco — a liberal city where persistent homelessness has grown into a full-blown crisis.
However, while Harris’s social media gaffe may be a non-issue for her supporters, the blunder only serves to show her critics just how out of touch with reality she truly is. To win in 2020, Harris has to win over the nation, not just deep-blue urban pockets.
Harris has baggage
Of course, that’s not the only problem critics see in Harris. Her outrageous proposal to eliminate the private health insurance market entirely and replace it with single-payer “Medicare for All” even spooked other Democrats — potential 2020 Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg warned the radical proposal “would bankrupt us for a very long time.” And former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who is considering running as an independent, also blasted the far-left plan. “That’s not correct, that’s not American. What’s next? What industry are we going to abolish next?”
Other Democrats worry about her record as an aggressive prosecutor, where she was more known for locking people up than for helping them get back on their feet.
In one shocking video clip, she laughingly brags how she used “the huge stick” she carried as DA to threaten parents with jail over school truancy, and then describes prosecuting a homeless single mom of three on truancy charges. Yikes.
