Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2019 book, Superheroes are Everywhere, made it to the U.S. southern border before she did.
The White House is apparently playing dumb after being asked why Harris’ book is included in welcome kits at the newly-converted Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center migrant holding facility, Fox News reported.
A White House spokesperson said that they weren’t sure how the book was chosen, other than saying that materials in a welcome kit are chosen by community sponsors.
Harris’ book, which was authored while she was still a member of the U.S. Senate, focuses on teaching children to look for the superheroes around them in daily life.
“Before Kamala Harris was elected to the vice presidency, she was a little girl who loved superheroes. And when she looked around, she was amazed to find them everywhere! In her family, among her friends, even down the street–there were superheroes wherever she looked,” the description on the book’s Amazon listing reads, adding that it’s now on The New York Times bestseller list.
The book was shown in a recently released picture from one of the welcome kits at a holding facility for unaccompanied minors, which included a number of basic hygiene items and clothing.

The inclusion of the book in the kit raises a number of ethical questions, as it’s not a stretch to presume that Harris is making a pretty penny off the boost in the book’s popularity.
Psaki plays dumb
On Monday, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy was the only journalist in the White House press briefing room willing to confront White House press secretary Jen Psaki on the issue, asking her bluntly why the book is in the kit and who made the decision to include it. Psaki, of course, deflected. See below:
REPORTER: “Every migrant child being brought to a shelter is being given a copy of [VP Kamala Harris’] children’s book. Do you know why that is and if she’s making any money off of that?”

Harris, who was tasked by President Joe Biden over one month ago to tackle the immigration crisis, or at least the “root causes” of it, has yet visit any of the numerous, overcrowded holding facilities or anywhere on the southern border, period.
With the high number of illegal border crossings, which includes a record-setting number of underage children, it’s probably time for Harris to act as one of those superheroes that she describes in her book and show some basic leadership skills by taking a trip to the border.
Editor’s note: The New York Post has since issued a correction on this story indicating that “only one known copy” of Kamala Harris’ book was given to a child at a migrant housing facility in California.
