Fans of Fox News host Jeanine Pirro — including President Donald Trump — have been sorely missing the judge’s popular Saturday evening program over the past two weeks as she served an apparent suspension over controversial comments she made about Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.
But according to Sean Hannity, that suspension is finally over. The host told Trump in a Wednesday interview that Pirro is poised to return to her normal slot in the Fox News lineup this weekend.
Trump appeared on Hannity for a lengthy interview on Wednesday that briefly touched on the “fake news” media, who Trump has accused of being the “enemy of the people.” But Trump didn’t stop at criticizing his foes: he also praised his favorite on-air personalities, including none other than Judge Jeanine Pirro.
“I hope Jeanine’s back soon,” Trump said on Wednesday.
Hannity interrupted with a brief promise: “She’s back Saturday.”
Fox News confirmed to The Hill on Thursday morning that Pirro would indeed be returning on Saturday after spending two weeks off the air over comments the host made questioning Rep. Omar’s allegiance to the U.S. Constitution.
“Omar wears a hijab, which, according to the Quran 33:59, tells women to cover so they won’t get molested,” Pirro said earlier this month. “Is her adherence to this Islamic doctrine indicative of her adherence to Sharia law, which in itself is antithetical to the United States Constitution?”
That simple question drew a sharp rebuke from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other groups, prompting Fox to issue a statement condemning the host.
“We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar,” the network said. “They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”
During the first week of Pirro’s surprise suspension, her program was preempted without prior announcement by a rerun of an episode of the Fox News documentary series Scandalous.
The next week, her time slot was filled with a special program focused on the recent submission of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s final report on his Trump-Russia collusion probe.
The sudden suspension of Pirro over her comments on Omar prompted blowback from Fox News fans, including Trump, who took to Twitter on March 17 with a simple request: “Bring back [Judge Jeanine] Pirro!”
It seems the president has finally gotten his wish.
