For wrestling fans, today is a very sad day.
A local CBS affiliate has reported that former wrestling superstar “Luscious” Johnny Valiant was killed in an apparent accident.
How It Happened
Valiant, whose real name is Thomas M. Sullivan, was reportedly crossing an intersection as a pedestrian when he was struck by a vehicle.
He was immediately rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead soon afterwards.
According to local police reports, it appears this was an unfortunate accident.
Ross Township Police Det. Brian Kohlhepp stated, “The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital, but we are very early on in the investigation, but we are still looking into what might have happened because of visibility because of the time of the day.”
Valiant was a star both in and outside of the ring.
For those of you that followed wrestling during Valiant’s heyday, he entered the ring against the likes of Killer Kowalski and Toru Tanaka.
His career did not end in the ring, though.
After his wrestling days were over, Valiant turned his attention to managing other wrestlers.
In fact, he managed some of the biggest names in the industry.
Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake were just two of the mega-stars of the wrestling world that were managed by Valiant.
Later in his managing career, he teamed up with Jimmy Hart to form The Dream Team of Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine.
Those two would win the Tag Team Championship in a match held in Philadelphia in 1985.
After his wrestling career, Valiant entered the entertainment industry.
He appeared in both The Sopranos and Law & Order.
Rest in peace “Luscious” and we thank you for great times and memories.
