Here’s to a politician who is willing to show that he has a spine.
Breitbart reports that Bill Hagerty, former Trump administration ambassador to Japan and current U.S. Senate candidate from Tennessee, resigned from the board of a company after he discovered it was actively promoting Black Lives Matter (BLM).
The company is R.J. O’Brien, an agricultural enterprise. Hagerty had served on the company’s board until tendering his resignation on Saturday.
BLM “seeks to destroy”
Breitbart obtained a copy of the resignation letter in which Hagerty, after stating that he has been “humbled” to have worked at R.J. O’Brien, “a foundational pillar of the agricultural industry,” quickly got down to business.
“At the same time, I have learned that the firm has promoted support for the Black Lives Matter movement, a Marxist organization that seeks to destroy the America that I know and long to support,” Hagerty said.
This is the same BLM organization the actions of which have been getting attention since the death of George Floyd. Hagerty went on to sum the group up succinctly and accurately.
He wrote: “One of the leaders of the BLM movement has said, ‘If this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it.’ And the BLM movement seeks to destroy the nuclear family, calls for violence, promotes anti-Semitism, tears down monuments, and seeks to completely defund and dismantle our police departments.”
Not standing for it
Hagerty went on to explain that it was R.J. O’Briens’ recent support of BLM that led to his decision to step down.
“Though as a board member I never approved nor engaged in the firm’s corporate decisions to promote outside entities, I cannot in good conscience remain affiliated in any way with the promotion of a radical political movement that seeks to use this moment to overthrow the government and usher in Marxism,” he said, according to Breitbart. “This movement wants to rip apart the fabric of our country and destroy many aspects of what makes America exceptional.”
Hagerty concluded: “I vehemently oppose their calls for violence and relentless march towards socialism. Please accept this as my resignation from R.J. O’Brien effective immediately.”
At a time when so many are capitulating to the demands of the BLM movement, it is good to see that at least one politician has remained true to his principles.
Hagerty already had President Trump’s support in his current Senate bid, but this will certainly solidify it. Hopefully, voters in Tennessee will agree.
