President Joe Biden’s botched U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan has led to widespread and bipartisan criticism amid a Taliban takeover in the war-torn nation.
One of the president’s fiercest critics is U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who asserted on Monday that she is working on articles of impeachment against Biden.
“His failure as a president is unspeakable”
The congresswoman declined to provide any initial details regarding what the articles are likely to include. As of this writing, her website did not include any formal announcement.
Nevertheless, Greene revealed that her budding impeachment effort stems from the recent failures in withdrawing U.S. troops, civilians, and allies out of Afghanistan.
During a podcast appearance with host Steve Bannon, she said: “I have my team right now working on articles of impeachment. Because I’m so disgusted with Joe Biden. You know, I’ve already filed one set of articles of impeachment. But his failure as a president is unspeakable.”
In contrast, Greene signaled that Bannon’s old boss, former President Donald Trump, would prove to be a more fitting commander in chief during the current crisis.
“Trump right now is more presidential — and he’s not even in the White House — than Joe Biden can ever be or stand up to in the past seven months,” she said.
“Handing them over as fast as possible”
Her remarks also touched on the billions of dollars in U.S. weapons and military equipment that have fallen into the hands of Taliban militants in Afghanistan.
“I wouldn’t be surprised at all if [the Biden administration is] paying the Taliban,” Greene said. “After all, they are paying the with weapons, vehicles, Black Hawk helicopters, because the Afghan army is handing them over as fast as possible.”
She went on to link the Taliban capture of American weapons to the ongoing push to implement gun control policies here at home.
“Anytime any Democrat ever speaks to America about gun control again, and they want to talk to you about your AR-15, you tell them right now how many weapons and how many semiautomatic weapons did you hand over to terrorists in Afghanistan, to the Taliban, ISIS, and possibly al-Qaeda, before you ever talk to Americans about gun control,” she said.
Greene certainly has her detractors on both sides of the aisle, but she retains a core base of supporters who are likely to be reinvigorated by news of her fledgling impeachment articles against the president.
