‘The evidence is clear’: Rep. Greene files articles of impeachment against Biden

President Joe Biden’s botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan has prompted more than a few prominent Republicans to call for his resignation.

For her part, U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has filed articles of impeachment against the president, citing his “dereliction of duty” in Afghanistan, among other things.

“His actions are so egregious”

According to the Washington Examiner, Greene is also pursuing impeachment on the grounds of Biden’s perceived violation of immigration laws along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Finally, she accuses the president of usurping the authority of Congress and the Supreme Court by unilaterally extending a federal evictions moratorium set to expire last month.

“In seven short months, Joe Biden has caused America to lose the respect of the entire world,” Greene said in a statement announcing the latest development. “The evidence is clear and his actions are so egregious that he must be impeached.”

She went on to provide brief summaries of each of the three issues addressed in the articles and presented bullet points to show examples of offenses she deemed impeachable.

“This is a process no one wants to go through, but it is a necessary process for the safety and security of the country and the American people,” Greene added. “We are a nation in distress. Our foreign allies and even our own citizens can no longer trust our government in the hands of Joe Biden.”

“The duty of Congress”

Given the current state of affairs, she declared that it is “the duty of Congress to hold the president accountable when he puts our nation at risk and ignores the rule of law.”

Her statement argued that the Biden administration is “illegitimate because it is no longer serving its citizens,” asserting that it is time to “restore respect for America in order for our allies and our citizens to trust the government.”

For that to happen, she concluded, “Joe Biden must be impeached, tried in the Senate, convicted, and removed from office.”

Of course, Greene’s efforts are largely seen as symbolic with little chance of advancing in a Congress narrowly controlled by Democrats.

Nevertheless, Republicans are facing increased pressure to use their power on Capitol Hill to hold Biden accountable — especially after Democrats mounted two failed plots to oust former President Donald Trump based on partisan impeachment hearings.
