GOP Rep. says DOJ handling of Biden classified docs scandal looks ‘like a cover-up’

According to U.S. Rep. Mike Turning (R-OH), the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) handling of the classified documents scandal involving President Joe Biden looks a lot “like a cover-up.”

Turner, the highest-ranking GOP member of the House Intelligence Committee, said as much during an interview on CBS News’s Face the Nation.

There, Turner discussed the latest discovery of classified documents that have been found in Biden’s possession at his Wilmington, Delaware, residence.

“A serial classified document hoarder”

Turner began by arguing that the latest classified documents discovery suggests that, “clearly,” Biden has “become a serial classified document hoarder.”

Turner then raised two key questions that have not adequately been answered by the Biden administration: “Why did he have these? Who did he show them to?”

“I mean the only reason you could think of why anyone would take them out of a classified space and home is to show them to somebody,” Turner said, once again, asking, “Who did he show them to?”

Turner went on to argue that this is going to be “crucial” to the DOJ’s special counsel investigation into the Biden classified documents scandal. And, Turner said that it would also be crucial to determine whether the classified documents scandal is “connected to the Biden family business.”

At this point, the CBS News host took over. And, she tried to differentiate the classified documents case involving Biden from the classified documents case involving Trump – the one that culminated in the FBI’s raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

The host tried to claim that there are important differences between the two, including that Biden has been cooperating with the DOJ’s investigation whereas Trump had refused to cooperate. But, Turner wasn’t having it.

“I think it looks more like a cover-up than an investigation,” Turner said.

You can say that again

Over the weekend, more classified documents were discovered at Biden’s Wilmington home following an FBI search that lasted over 12-hours. The CBS host tried to use this fact to argue that Biden is different from Trump because Biden consented to such a search.

But, the fact that Biden consented already distinguishes the case from Trump’s, where the FBI raided his home without his consent. On top of this, Biden’s personal attorney revealed that the DOJ agreed to allow Biden’s lawyers to be present during the search, whereas Trump’s attorneys were not allowed to do the same.

But, it turns out there is another crucial difference between the two searches. The latest reports indicate that it was the White House that actually asked the FBI to conduct the search of Biden’s residence.

As Turner said, it sure does look “more like a cover-up than an investigation.”
