U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) just argued that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is "not quite ready" to be the leader of America.

Gooden said as much during an exclusive interview with Breitbart News that he participated in over the weekend.

Background

It is widely expected that DeSantis will join the field of candidates looking to emerge victorious in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. That's because DeSantis has clearly been setting himself up to be a presidential candidate, appearing, around the country, at the typical kinds of events that candidates appear at.

DeSantis, however, has yet to announce his 2024 candidacy. And, recently, things have not been going his way.

DeSantis, in the polls, has lost a lot of ground to the clear Republican frontrunner for 2024: former President Donald Trump. Real Clear Politics currently has Trump up, on average, 28.3 percentage points on DeSantis - although Trump, on individual polls, has seen wider margins than this.

On top of this, it is Trump - and not DeSantis - who seems to be racking up the overwhelming majority of Republican endorsements. Trump even appears to have gained 2024 endorsements from most Republicans in DeSantis's own state of Florida.

Currently, it appears that 2024 would be a significant uphill battle for DeSantis, should he decide to enter the race.

Gooden endorses Trump

Gooden has already endorsed Trump for 2024. He did so in mid-April.

"Today, after careful consideration and a positive meeting with Governor DeSantis, I have decided to endorse President @realDonaldTrump for 2024," Gooden said.

So, why is DeSantis "Not quite ready"?

Gooden, in his opinion, believes that DeSantis is "not quite ready" to be president, and he explained the Breitbart that he came to this conclusion after his meetup with DeSantis.

Gooden said:

I spoke with DeSantis. He was a nice guy. But, I realized he’s not quite ready to be in Washington and in the presidency. I think he’s done a decent job as governor and should probably finish out his term and focus on that.

Gooden went on to say that "we just can’t afford someone coming to the White House that doesn’t have experience and doesn’t know what they’re doing in the situation they’re in.

Gooden said that this is especially true considering that Republicans have Trump who "has the experience" and who "knows how to defeat these people."

Accordingly, Gooden argued that Donald Trump is "the best candidate and our best choice for president." And, Gooden also said that he believes Trump is "going to win."
