GOP lawmaker warns that terror networks are exploiting Biden’s softer immigration policy

President Joe Biden came into office on the promise of softer immigration policies than his predecessor, leading to a marked increase in undocumented migrants pouring across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Some House Republicans, however, are pointing out that there appears to be a new national security threat emerging from the ongoing border crisis.

“And why were they coming now?”

According to reports, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is sounding the alarm after speaking to border agents about the demographics of the individuals they have recently apprehended along the border.

An alarming number of them were from parts of the world including Haiti, Iran, and Yemen, and some of them were on federal watchlists.

Adding to his concern, McCarthy noted that federal law enforcement agencies are being ordered to release many of these detainees onto the streets of U.S. cities.

He revealed the information during a press conference in El Paso, Texas, this week, revealing news about which the mainstream media has been largely silent.

“They’re from Central America,” McCarthy said on Monday. “But do you know who else? Iran. Yemen. Sri Lanka. When I walked through the facility, there’s more Haitians than any other nationality I saw. And why were they coming now? You ask the border agents; they were shocked themselves: because they’re being released into the country.

“Starting to exploit the southern border”

House Homeland Security Committee ranking member Rep. John Katko (R-NY), a former El Paso prosecutor, insisted that Mexican cartels had been “masterfully” exploiting Biden’s rollback of strict border policies implemented by former President Donald Trump.

“Individuals that they have on the watch list for terrorism are now starting to exploit the southern border,” he said, adding that several undocumented immigrants detained at the southern border were flagged for being on some of those lists.”

Customs and Border Protection does not release such details to the public, though, so it is possible that ordinary Americans will never find out exactly who had been arrested.

Both McCarthy and Katko slammed the Biden administration for mishandling the situation, calling into question whether the U.S. government is capable of implementing recommended COVID-19 guidelines while processing the thousands of incoming migrants. The Biden administration is also facing bipartisan criticism over reports that child migrants are being detained for longer than federal law permits.

“At a time when the president will keep our country closed, when maybe we have hoped for a Fourth of July to get together just with their family, how much spread of COVID is he creating every single day by his policies along this border?” McCarthy asked.
