GOP Illinois lawmaker to resign after disturbing sexual allegations made public

The ugly head of sexual misconduct continues to make its presence known in our political world.

This time, Illinois state Rep. Nick Sauer, a Republican, has been forced out of office in disgrace.

The tale of Nick Sauer is rather disturbing, and unlike many of the other recent cases we have seen.

The complaint against the state representative was made by his ex-girlfriend, Kate Kelly.

Kelly contends Sauer opened up a fake Instagram account using her photos.

He then posted “privately shared” nude photos of her on the profile to lure in male fans.

He would then open dialogues with the men pretending to be Kelly.

Kelly’s complaint stated: “Nick would use this account to direct message men with my photos to engage in graphic conversations of a sexual nature.”

Kelly also stated that he shared “private details” of her life with these men.

Immediate Action

When news of the scandal broke, his fellow state politicos called for his immediate resignation.

The charge was led by Democrat State Senator Melinda Bush.

“This is exactly why I fought for the creation of the Joint Task Force on Sexual Discrimination and Harassment Awareness and Prevention,” Bush said, “so we could give victims a safe space to come forward and so we can take the necessary steps to change the culture in Springfield and eliminate sexual harassment.”

The general consensus among Republicans in office was that Sauer had made the right decision by offering his resignation so quickly.

Sauer was in the middle of a re-election campaign when news of the scandal broke.

Ironically, one of Sauer’s duties was serving on the House committee task force for sexual harassment and sexual discrimination.
