GOP furious over Biden announcement of ‘political’ additional release from Strategic Petroleum Reserve

President Joe Biden has been steadily draining the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve, ostensibly in a futile bid to stabilize global oil markets and reduce the domestic price per gallon of gasoline but more accurately to mask the negative economic and political consequences of his disastrous anti-energy policies.

Now, just a few weeks before the midterm elections, Biden has announced his plans to release another 15 million barrels from the national reserve, and Republicans have been quite outspoken with their deep disapproval of his obvious political stunt that endangers national security, Breitbart reported.

Biden continues to deplete Strategic Petroleum Reserve

The announcement comes as gas prices have begun to rise again after modest reductions over the summer from record highs earlier in the year, in part due to a recently announced production cut by the OPEC+ nations as well as an impending European Union embargo against Russian-produced oil and gas.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, Biden has already released more than 200 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve since taking office, more than all other presidents combined, which has reduced that reserve to its lowest point since 1984, shortly after it was first created.

In a speech on Wednesday, President Biden revealed that an additional 15 million barrels would be released from the reserve between now and December, and indicated that there could be “further releases in the months ahead if needed.”

He also announced his intention to refill the reserve if and when the price per barrel of oil dropped to $70, and reiterated his accusations that oil companies and gas stations were engaged in profiteering and price gouging. Biden also demanded that oil companies produce and refine more oil and gas, even though his own energy policies have strongly discouraged and prevented any such increases.

Republicans are justifiably not happy

President Biden also emphatically said “No” when asked if his decision was “politically motivated” so close the elections in which Democrats are predicted to lose, at least in part due to concerns over high gas prices and energy policies, but many Republicans made it exceedingly clear that they weren’t buying Biden’s denial of partisan intent.

“The #SPR was built for a national energy crisis — not a Democrat election crisis,” Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said in a statement. “@JoeBiden is draining our emergency oil supply to a 40-year low. His dismal approval rating is not a justifiable reason to continue to raid our nation’s oil reserves.”

“This is a political Band-Aid to cover up the crisis caused by Biden’s war on American energy,” Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) said in a tweet. “Biden is being reckless with our national security by draining the SPR for the sake of trying to help his party through the elections. The American people can see right through this.”

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) simply tweeted, “Biden draining the emergency oil reserves weeks before an election is a political stunt, not a plan. Restore American energy.”

“The Strategic Petroleum Reserve exists for times of genuine crisis and real emergency. It’s not a political tool for Biden to boost Dem’s falling poll numbers ahead of the midterms,” wrote Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY). “If Joe Biden was serious about solutions, he would increase domestic energy production now.”

Finally, Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) got the potentially dangerous heart of the matter, and wrote in a tweet, “Joe Biden is going to release more oil from our SPR in an attempt to lower fuel prices AGAIN. At this point, it’s not just about artificially reducing gas prices at the pump for political purposes. It’s looking more and more like an intentional gutting of our energy defense.”
