Attorney Sidney Powell has made a name for herself since last month’s election for her efforts to present a theory that the outcome was fraudulent based on the results of flawed voting machine results.
Despite her repeated appearance in meetings and news conferences related to President Donald Trump’s election-related challenges, the president’s legal team is continuing to distance from her and her work.
“Not a special counsel for the president”
Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, emphasized and reiterated that position earlier this week.
The most recent disavowal came amid reports that Powell had been spotted paying visits to the White House in recent days, presumably to meet with the president to discuss ongoing efforts to overturn the reported outcome.
According to the Washington Examiner, Giuliani appeared on Newsmax on Monday for an interview with former White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
“Let me say definitively: Sidney Powell is not part of our legal team. She hasn’t been for five weeks,” the former New York City mayor explained.
Giuliani went on to assert that Powell “is not a special counsel for the president” and does not represent either Trump or the administration. Unconfirmed recent reports suggested that Trump had considered appointing Powell to serve as a special counsel investigating allegations of election fraud.
“Its ability to flip votes”
“She speaks for herself,” he added, acknowledging that she is “a fine woman, a fine lawyer” who is merely expressing her views on the matter.
“I’m not responsible for them, the president isn’t, nor is anybody else on our legal team,” Giuliani said of Powell’s opinions.
Of course, he made a similar disavowal last month in the wake of Powell’s speculation about Dominion voting machines and alleged fraud.
Powell claimed that one of the brand’s “most characteristic features is its ability to flip votes,” suggesting that machines “can set and run an algorithm that probably ran all over the country to take a certain percentage of votes from President Trump and flip them to President Biden.”
At that time, Giuliani and Jenna Ellis, another Trump attorney, issued a joint statement, asserting: “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the President in his personal capacity.”
