Gingrich to McCarthy: Do what Pelosi did and kick Dems off committees

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., would only be following the precedent set by outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi if he kicks a number of more objectionable Democrats off their committees.

McCarthy has discussed the idea, and Gingrich says he would be right in doing that.

According to a Fox News report, Gingrich said McCarthy would be right to remove Ilhan Omar, Adam Schiff, and Eric Swalwell from their assignments.

McCarthy has indicated such actions are possible when he becomes speaker in the GOP-controlled House.

Gingrich said, “I think Nancy Pelosi set the precedent. She did something that had never been done before and reached into the minority party to decide who could and could not serve on some committees. I think Kevin McCarthy is following her precedent. So the Democrats have nothing to complain about because they started this dance and frankly, the three people he’s picked so totally deserve to be kicked off committees.”

He continued, “It’s unbelievable. Adam Schiff made a career out of lying to the American people while serving as chairman of the Intelligence Committee without any question, just plain, flat-out lying. Swalwell has had a relationship with a Chinese communist. That’s unimaginable for somebody who’s going to have security clearance. And of course, Omar is a viciously anti-Israel, antisemitic orator who has consistently violated the norms of civilized behavior. So I think those are three pretty good targets. And I commend Speaker-designate McCarthy for taking them head-on.”

Among Schiff’s, wildly unsubstantiated claims were that he had seen evidence of President Trump’s collusion with Russia.

That came as a result of a now-debunked conspiracy theory cooked up by the FBI and Democrats during the 2016 election that alleged collusion. Multiple Democrats clung to that storyline for months after it was proven wrong.

Swalwell, too, while on the Intelligence Committee with access to the nation’s secrets, was carrying on a “relationship” with a known Chinese spy.

And Omar’s multiple attacks on Israel have left many stunned by their viciousness.

It was Pelosi who tossed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., from her committee assignments over her political perspectives. Pelosi also refused the minority party’s recommendations for her one-sided committee “investigating” the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol. She ended up with only those on the committee who were looking for ways to condemn Donald Trump.

Throughout House history, there have been others who have been removed from their assignments, but most of those cases involve a criminal indictment at some point.

Pelosi removed Greene over her political views.

McCarthy said just a day earlier that Schiff, Swalwell, and Omar should not be on congressional committees.

McCarthy told Fox News he will keep the promise he made in January to remove Swalwell and Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee and Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

McCarthy said Swalwell’s association with a Chinese spy, Schiff’s promotion of the Steele dossier, which was used in the Democrats’ Russiagate conspiracy theory, and Omar’s criticism of Israel disqualify them from serving on their respective panels.

McCarthy said, “One thing I said from the very beginning, is Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector. Why would we ever give him a security clearance and the secrets to America? So, I will not allow him to be on Intel. You have Adam Schiff, who lied to the American public time and again – we will not allow him to be on the Intel Committee either. Look at Congresswoman Omar and her antisemitic comments that have gone forward. We’re not going to allow her to be on Foreign Affairs.”
