A recent statement made by a Fox News anchor has many fans of the network up in arms.
According to Mediaite, that statement was made by Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher during a recent edition of Fox Nation. Gallagher apparently shamed unvaccinated viewers, saying in part, “I shouldn’t have to wear a mask because you chose not to get vaccinated.”
“The Obama thing”
In France, protests have erupted over a requirement that residents prove vaccination in order to participate in many aspects of life. The Obama birthday party, on the other hand, has generated controversy given that it was a fairly large gathering held at a time when COVID-19 cases are surging, and the fact that most guests were not masked up, as required by the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance.
Hornacek, at one point, asked Gallagher about the possibility the same situation happening in France could end up happening in America.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s possible,” Gallagher said. “People are pushing back on this kind of thing. And by the way, the Obama thing? It was scaled back so much, Abby, that the police officers were calling the traffic situation a s***show, because they couldn’t get control of it.”
Gallagher went on to opine that “somebody invariably will get Covid because of that gathering,” adding that the criticism that the left is receiving for the event is “fair.”
Gallaher on the unvaccinated
Gallagher went on to argue that people not wearing masks at Obama’s party — or anywhere else — are not the problem, but rather, it is the people who have chosen not to get vaccinated.
“In a free society, people have the right to make their own risk assessments, even if others don’t approve, and the rest of us should get to live our lives without limiting ourselves because of the decisions made by others,” Gallagher said, according to Mediaite.
He added: “Should we mandate vaccines? It’s America, we shouldn’t. People are going to push back if we do. And the same thing if you don’t want to get vaccinated, I shouldn’t have to wear a mask because you chose not to get vaccinated.”
However, why people are upset about Gallagher’s remarks is that he clearly doesn’t believe in the freedom that he preaches about. Rather than simply not wearing a mask, which he is free to do, he is arguing that people need to get vaccinated so that he doesn’t have to wear a mask.
In other words, Gallagher seems to be suggesting that people ought to give up their freedom not to get vaccinated so he can have the freedom to not wear a mask, which is not how American freedom works.
