Much to the dismay of her fans, Fox News decided not to air Judge Jeanine Pirro’s show for the second week in a row on Saturday.
Pirro is apparently still being punished for a controversial remark she made about Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) more than two weeks ago.
The Nitty Gritty
During the latest episode of Justice with Jeanine to air, Pirro suggested that wearing a hijab signifies Omar’s allegiance to Sharia law, which Pirro said stands in opposition to the ideals of the U.S. Constitution. A backlash ensued, with many advertisers boycotting Pirro’s show.
Pirro responded by trying to clarify her statements.
“I’ve seen a lot of comments about my opening statement from Saturday night’s show and I did not call Rep. Omar un-American,” Pirro said. “My intention was to ask a question and start a debate, but of course because one is Muslim does not mean you don’t support the Constitution.”
But her efforts were to no avail. Pirro has now been off the air for two weeks, and her future looks uncertain — especially as even Fox News has come out against her.
“We strongly condemn Jeanine Pirro’s comments about Rep. Ilhan Omar,” Fox News said in a statement. “They do not reflect those of the network and we have addressed the matter with her directly.”
Bring Back Judge Jeanine
Pirro didn’t speak publicly again on the issue until last week, citing “legal reasons.”
“I’m told that viewers are boycotting Fox News to support me and, while I cannot officially endorse a boycott, I can say that I love my viewers,” Pirro wrote in one of several Facebook posts.
In another post on Friday, she thanked her fans for their support and lamented the timing of her apparent suspension — just as Robert Mueller’s long-awaited report has been submitted to the Justice Department.
“I’m overwhelmed by the support you’ve shown me!” she wrote. “I tear up every time I try to read through your tens of thousands of lovely messages. For legal reasons, I can’t comment on what’s happening here, but I also can’t help but be suspicious about losing my megaphone just when the Mueller report is released. I pray to God I soon have a platform to discuss that report with the American people!”
But it isn’t just Fox News fans who are standing behind Pirro. On Saturday, the judge posted a photo of her and President Donald Trump alongside a caption reading: “True friends have your back.”
Indeed, it seems Trump does have her back. In a series of tweets last weekend, Trump urged Fox to stand behind Pirro.
“Bring back [Judge Jeanine] Pirro,” Trump wrote. “The Radical Left Democrats, working closely with their beloved partner, the Fake News Media, is using every trick in the book to SILENCE a majority of our Country.
“[Fox News] must stay strong and fight back with vigor,” the president added. “Stop working soooo hard on being politically correct, which will only bring you down, and continue to fight for our Country. The losers all want what you have, don’t give it to them. Be strong & prosper, be weak & die!”
