It appears that one Fox News personality’s time with the popular news outlet may be coming to a close.
According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, Outnumbered co-host Melissa Francis may have been let go by Fox.
What’s going on?
Francis has been with Fox for six years, beginning in 2012 an anchor for the Fox Business Network. In 2014, she switched over to Fox News to co-host Outnumbered.
Francis hasn’t been seen on the program for a few weeks now, with her most recent television appearance being Oct. 7.
The Times said it received conflicting answers about Francis’ situation from “people familiar with the matter” as well as representatives from Fox. According to “one person close to Francis,” the host has been fired, the Times reported. A Fox representative, however, told the outlet that Francis is still an employee and that Fox is simply revamping its daytime programming.
“Fox News Media regularly considers programming changes, including to its daytime lineup, and will launch new formats as appropriate after the election,” the representative said. “These changes are being made independent of any other ongoing matter.”
The “ongoing matter”
The phrase “ongoing matter” in the representative’s statement might be the key to the whole situation.
Francis has been working for Fox for almost a year now without a contract, following a lawsuit she filed against Fox last year alleging that the outlet had discriminated against her by paying her less than her male colleagues. This claim, according to insiders, is currently in arbitration, the Times reported.
According to the Times, neither Francis nor Fox would comment on the matter, except for a Fox representative who said the matter is confidential.
The bottom line
By the looks of things, Fox News viewers probably shouldn’t expect to see Francis on television anytime soon.
Whether that’s because Fox is revamping its daytime lineup or because Francis has been fired is unclear.
The last time the public heard from Francis was on Oct. 18 when she tweeted: “Trump will win. I’m not advocating, I’m telling you to mentally prepare. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
