Apparently tired of drama behind the scenes, Fox has decided to cancel the series “Lethal Weapon.”
After three seasons and a significant cast change, the network decided it was simply not worth saving.
Behind the Scenes
Much of the drama behind the scenes was attributed to actor Clayne Crawford, who played Martin Riggs in the show.
In late April of last year, reports of Crawford acting up on set started to go public. Those reports stated that he had been abusive to other members of the crew, creating a very hostile environment on the set.
Crawford responded with a public post on Instagram, saying his behavior was caused by “anger over working conditions that did not feel safe or conducive to good work.”
Within weeks, the network had heard enough and on May 8, 2018, Crawford was officially fired from the show.
A week later, the network announced Seann William Scott would be replacing Crawford on the show.
When Season 3 aired, the Riggs character was killed off in the opening show and fans immediately expressed outrage over the change.
While all of this was going on, more behind-the-scenes behavior was being revealed. Daman Wayans, who was playing Murtaugh on the show, sent out some posts blaming Crawford for injuries on set.
Reports then started to surface over Wayans “diva-like” behavior and demands on the set that were allegedly at the center of the problems for Crawford.
After the first show of Season 3 aired, Damon Wayans came out publicly to say he would not be on the show after the conclusion of Season 3.
Rather than continue on without Wayans, producers must have felt the show lost its authenticity, after losing both main characters, so the plug was pulled.
