Fox News reports that a former official of Planned Parenthood, who was facing child pornography charges, has killed himself.
The individual is 36-year-old Tim Yergeau. Yergeau was the former strategic communications director for Planned Parenthood's Southern New England branch.
Yergeau left that position in August 2022 when he became the communications director at Long Wharf Theater. It is also being reported that Yergeau previously worked for Connecticut's New Haven Free Public Library Foundation.
But, recently, the police have been investigating Yergeau for child pornography.
Yergeau's suicide comes not long after the New Haven Police Department conducted a raid on his residence.
At least, that's what the police department was supposed to be doing. But, instead, the New Haven Police Special Victims Unit ended up accidentally targeting one of Yergeau's neighbors.
The unit, at 6 a.m. on April 6, mistakenly raided the home of Stacey Wezenter, Yergeau's upstairs neighbor. The officers even handcuffed Wezenter and began questioning her about Yergeau's whereabouts before they recognized their mistake.
Wezenter has since filed a complaint in which she says that she has been traumatized by the whole ordeal. The incident is being investigated by the New Haven police's internal affairs.
New Haven Police Chief Karl Jacobson, in response, has said, "Unfortunately, a mistake was made. We feel for the woman and we’re going to do everything we can to make it right."
This botched raid incident took place five days before Yergeau would commit suicide. The raid, no doubt, alerted Yergeau to the fact that the authorities were on his case.
The authorities had been reluctant to specify that Yergeau is the man whom they have been investigating in relation to child pornography charges. But, following the suicide, Jacobson said, "the person who died was definitely the suspect in a child pornography investigation and the person who committed suicide."
Still, the authorities are still not releasing all of the details about the investigation, which, apparently, is ongoing.
The New York Post reports:
Police reportedly said that since there are two open investigations into the matter, they will not release the application for the search warrant or provide information about what was found in Yergeau’s apartment until they confirm no other suspects were involved.
The two investigations appear to be the investigation into the child pornography charges and the investigation into Yergeau's suicide. The state Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner has already confirmed the death by suicide.
