Former Gov. Cuomo escapes criminal charges in pandemic nursing home scandal

Not long after escaping criminal charges regarding two women who accused him of sexual misconduct, disgraced ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) just caught another extremely lucky break.

According to Fox News, Cuomo was under investigation not only for sexual harassment issues, but also his COVID-19-related nursing home death scandal. It was announced this week that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office had closed the investigation into Cuomo’s nursing home situation during the pandemic.

The investigation originally started after a bombshell report last year from New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) that said Cuomo and his office underreported COVID-related nursing home deaths by as much as a staggering 50%.

Prior to that, Cuomo came under heavy fire for making state nursing homes take in elderly patients who had tested positive for the virus or were suspected of having it, with many claiming that such a move resulted in thousands — if not more — of needless deaths among New York’s most vulnerable residents.

Case closed

Unfortunately, justice doesn’t seem to be on the table as far as Cuomo’s early pandemic actions, as it was confirmed that the case had been closed by the Manhattan DA’s Elder Care Unit, according to one of Cuomo’s high-powered attorneys, Elkan Abramowitz.

“I was contacted today by the head of the Elder Care Unit from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office who informed me they have closed its investigation involving the Executive Chamber and nursing homes,” Abramowitz, a former federal prosecutor said.

He added: “I was told that after a thorough investigation — as we have said all along — there was no evidence to suggest that any laws were broken.”

Such an announcement will undoubtedly make thousands of Americans sick to their stomachs, knowing now that essentially, Cuomo got away with murder.

The news marks the second week in a row that Cuomo was able to wriggle out of criminal liability for his numerous scandals.

Albany DA drops case

According to the New York Post, it was recently revealed that the Albany County district attorney had dropped a criminal sexual assault case the former governor faced.

“Albany County District Attorney David Soares announced today that a thorough and independent review of the investigation into the allegations against former Governor Andrew Cuomo has concluded,” a statement from the DA’s office read.

While it’s refreshing that Cuomo is no longer the governor of New York, it’s disgusting that he seems to be continually skating numerous criminal charges, and it’s especially sad for his thousands of victims and their families.
