Former FBI official Andrew McCabe: Deep State agents 'worried' about being jailed by Trump

 June 6, 2024

Former FBI director Andrew McCabe told CNN that members of the Deep State are "worried" about being thrown in jail if Donald Trump wins the presidential election - and some are thinking about fleeing the United States.

"It’s terrifying, it’s frightening. I have a lot of conversations with former colleagues, people who are or were in the intelligence and law enforcement community, and may have worked in the Obama administration," McCabe said.

Trump has spent years railing against the intelligence community, which hatched an attempted coup during his presidency through the baseless Trump-Russia investigation.

Andrew McCabe

McCabe was a central figure in the Trump-Russia probe, which was predicated on opposition research funded by Trump's opponent Hillary Clinton.

A former FBI lawyer was sentenced to probation for manipulating evidence that was used to spy on Trump's campaign, but no prominent FBI officials have been held to account for the scandal, which deeply damaged public trust in federal law enforcement.

McCabe, who briefly led the FBI after Trump fired James Comey in 2017, was himself fired for leaking information and then lying about it. McCabe eventually recovered his pension in a settlement with the government.

During a 60 Minutes interview shortly after his firing, McCabe said he discussed forcing Trump out of power using the 25h Amendment after Comey's firing.

McCabe segued into a job at CNN, joining a trend of left-wing former intelligence officials who have gone on to work in the anti-Trump cable news circuit.

Intel community fears Trump

In a recent hand-wringing interview with CNN, McCabe described mounting anxiety among intelligence officials about Trump's presidential campaign and his threats of retribution.

McCabe described "torturous discussions with their family members about whether or not they have to leave the country to avoid being unconstitutionally and illegally detained."

"I mean, people are actually worried about being thrown in jail or grabbed in some sort of extrajudicial detention," he said.

When Trump talks about revenge, he means "dismantling and greatly incapacitating the Department of Justice and the FBI," McCabe warned.

Consequences?

It's clear from McCabe's comments that he does not believe the FBI or DOJ need to reform or take accountability for past (and ongoing) abuses.

The relentless campaign to destroy Trump has only gotten worse since his presidency ended, with Trump now facing jail time after being found guilty in a criminal trial that was tainted by politics.

During an interview with Sean Hannity, Trump said that he would have "every right" to give Democrats a taste of their own medicine, but the weaponization of justice "has to stop" or the country will unravel.
