As President Joe Biden and his White House continue to plummet in approval ratings and overall polling, a growing list of Democratic operatives are seemingly coming to a point where they’re thinking enough is enough already.
According to Fox News, that was proven once again by none other than No Excuses PAC founder Corbin Trent, a former top aide to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who said that the “old as s**t” Biden could lead Dems to a 1992-like disaster for the party.
“One thing – polling – is behind that. We’re seeing with my version of the midterm outcome is not just my version. We’re seeing that the polls show the Republicans have a slight edge. That may be getting worse,” Trent said during a Fox News interview.
He added: “We see Biden’s approval ratings going down and moving in the wrong direction.”
Though Trent was especially critical of Biden’s performance, he didn’t seem quite ready to turn in his Dem Party membership, as he went on to praise the party in general for the perceived good it has done over the past year.
Trent essentially said that all of that progress has been pushed aside because of the current president’s failure to connect with the American people.
“What we’re seeing right now is a Democratic Party that has done a lot for the American people and has largely been unable to articulate what it’s doing and what it’s done. That is a real challenge.” the former AOC aide said.
He ramped up his language concerning the president’s performance when he told Politico that Biden’s issues stem from “being deeply unpopular, he’s old as s–t… ineffective — unless we’re counting judges or whatever the hell inside baseball scorecard we’re using.”
Trent warned that if the president’s current pace continues, the Dem Party could see a situation where Biden will face a primary challenger in 2024, should he choose to run again. Such a scenario on the left hasn’t played out since 1980.
Who could face him?
During his interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, she rattled off a list of potential primary challengers Biden could face in 2024, which included a wide range of personalities, from Ocasio-Cortez to California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). Of course, Vice President Kamala Harris was mentioned, but she faces equally embarrassing polling numbers, and has a host of her own growing problems.
“If anybody sort of traditional were to pop up, then it’s going to be a wide variety of people,” Trent said. “You have a guy that is pushing 80, right? There wasn’t even certainty that he would run for a second term when he first ran.”
He concluded by saying that if Dems take a beating in 2022, which has been widely predicted, the Democratic Party will have no choice but to take a new direction if they want any hope of prevailing in 2024. What that means is anyone’s guess, but it’ll make for one extremely wild election season.
